As reported by United Nations, for every Nollywood movie sold there are nine pirated copies also sold.
According to renowned political Economist and entrepreneur, Pat Utomi, Nigeria could be losing well over $2 Billion annually, considering the statistic.
The Professor revealed his insight during the just-concluded second edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC), Vanguard reports. He stated that the problem of piracy currently menaces the growth and development of the industry.
He highlights that the piracy problem has persisted over the years, owing to poor state of infrastructures, weak support of intellectual copyright and low level of awareness of the masses on the issue of property right.
He advices that since the problem is a distribution challenge, every player in the industry should learn the art of distribution in entertainment, to enable the eventual curbing of the fiasco.
