Reports from TheCable indicate that
one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls have escaped.
The online news platform
quoted the National Chairman of the Kibaku Area Development Association, Pogu
Bitrus as saying the girls escaped from her captors but she is “currently at a
location I cannot disclose.
“But I can assure you that she
is safe,” he said.
He said the identity of the
escaped girls is being kept under wraps so as not to endanger her life.
Reports say four other girls
escaped last week but this was not made public in the interest of their safety.
Similarly, TheCable’s standby source in Chibok confirmed the news,
saying: “It is true. I have just confirmed that one girl escaped.”
Over 50 kidnapped
schoolgirls were said to have escaped from the Boko Haram Islamic sect soon
after they were kidnapped with many escaping while they were being taken deep
into the Sambisa forest camp of the terrorists.
Recent reports indicate that
former President Olusegun Obasanjo is making efforts at negotiating the release
of the over 230 girls but the status of this discussion is not immediately
available.
