Did you survive the great Instagram purge of 2014?

If your follower count went down suddenly, you are not alone. Instagram announced this week that they were doing a huge clean sweep of spam accounts, so any Instagram follower you had that was a bot or that was deactivated has been wiped out, or will be by the end of December. The account for Instagram itself lost over 18,000,000 followers.

"We're in the process of fixing an issue that incorrectly includes inactive or fake accounts in follower/following lists," the company wrote on its Help page. "We want to maintain the best possible experience on Instagram, so we do our best to remove spam, fake accounts and other people and posts that don't follow our Community Guidelines. As we remove these accounts, some people may notice a decrease in their follower/following counts."

But the people that were hit the hardest were celebs, with some A-listers on Instagram losing millions and millions of followers. From Justin Bieber to Britney Spears, Instagram Purge '14 was super rough on the rich and famous. Poor celebrities. They really can't catch a break, can they?

Chevrolet built a futuristic, spaceship-inspired concept car for 'Gran Turismo 6

The latest concept car designed for Gran Turismo 6 is a futuristic supercar from Chevrolet. The car, dubbed the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Tursimo (VGT), will be available as downloadable content in the PlayStation 3 game later this holiday season. It was designed through a collaboration between Chevrolet Research and Development and Chaparral Racing, and it features a propulsion system based on technology that could one day be used in spaceships.

The whole thing sounds pretty insane, with the car featuring "a mid-mounted laser beamed-energy propulsion system, which pulses beams of light that focus in a shroud, creating shock waves that generate tremendous thrust." It features 900 horsepower worth of thrust, a top in-game speed of 240 miles per hour, and can go 0-60 in 1.5 seconds. "This is a fantasy car by design," says Frank Saucedo, who lead the concept design team. Even crazier, you don't sit in the car, but instead lie face down with your arms and legs spread towards the wheels. "Think of it as adapting a wing suit to a racing car," says Saucedo, "where the driver’s movements control certain aspects of the aero package."

The Chaparral 2X VGT joins other fantastic racing concepts from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Nissan, as part of the Vision Gran Turismo project.

Los Angeles: 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a knight in white satin

We're not going to lie to you. The reason you're seeing the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata on these pages again is solely because this is the first time we're seeing the roadster displayed in a color other than the ruby shade it was first shown in. Okay, okay, so this is the first time the Miata is being displayed at a North American auto show other than SEMA, and we'd say that this is the first time Mazda is showing a US-spec model, but clearly this is a right-hand-drive car. Either way, there's still not much to it yet, especially since Mazda is still withholding power and performance figures.

As expected, the ND Miata, as it is already known among the cognoscenti, will receive a 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder and the buyer's choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic here in the US. The 1.5-liter model engine that had been linked to the car back in the rumormill stage will not make it to our showrooms.

Preliminary specifications still show the Miata measuring just 154.1 inches in length overall, with an increased track width to 68.1 inches and a low, low overall height of 49.0 inches. Despite the larger-displacement engine and its presumably heavier weight, Mazda is still claiming ideal 50:50 weight distribution and a weight loss of over 220 pounds versus today's NC generation. All of which sounds like the Miata has the right ingredients to make good on its promised Jinba Ittai ("rider and horse as one") driving experience.

It might be just plain ol' white paint, but you can color us excited.
