Borussia Dortmund have once again confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan has asked to leave the German club, and that he'll be going during the sumer transfer window. Earlier on Thursday came reports that Mats Hummels had turned down Manchester United in favour of staying at Borussia Dortmund, but if other reports about agreeing personal terms with Nicolas Otamendi are correct, then it's Manchester United who refused Hummels and not the reverse.
With Gundogan there's less confusion on his desire to leave Dortmund. Whereas Hummels flirted repeatedly through the media with the idea of leaving Dortmund and Germany, Gundogan told the club directly that he wanted to move and with him only having a year of contract left that request is to be granted. Regional newspaper Ruhr Nachricten have spoken to Michael Zorc, Dortmund's general manager, and he told them that Gundogan would be going because "His wish is to move this summer."
Whilst there have been conflicting reports all over the place about interest, with a claim in Spain today that Barcelona have scheduled a medical, the Manchester United reports from not so long ago were the strongest. German newspaper Der Westen were absolutely insistent that Gundogan would sign for Manchester United and haven't backed down since. It'll be interesting to see if Gundogan does end up at Old Trafford and fans may not have to wait too long, progress will be expected once the season is finished.
